4th-string
So I am really not sure how I feel about you anymore... I feel like you were serious when you said that I am "4th-string" espeically concidering things that I have been told about you & your reputation. And I really don't know if I can trust you. After all, it wasn't that long ago that you decided that you weren't going to talk to me anymore & then a couple weeks later you change your mind. Then to top it off, a couple days later you change your mind back & don't talk to me anymore. Then just the other day you are all buddy-buddy with me again. It seems to be just a bit too much back & forth for me. I never know when you are going to change your mind again & I am trying to keep myself from getting too attached just in case you do. It's not fair to me because I really like you, I'm not sure why, but I do. And I'm pretty sure you know how much I like you & I think that that is exactly why you are doing this to me...because you know that I will still be there when you need me. But you know what...I'm not going to be the girl that you only call when you are lonely. I want more & I deserve more. And if you are not willing to give that to me, please tell me now, because then I can stop wasting my time. I am not going to be the girl to lower my standard & settle for a guy that just calls me up from "4th-string" when he needs me.

First in a long time...here are some song lyrics!
Does Anybody Hear Her
By: Casting Crowns
She is running
A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction
She is trying
But the canyon's ever widening
In the depths of her cold heart
So she sets out on another misadventure just to find
She's another two years older
And she's three more steps behind
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
She is yearning
For shelter and affection
That she never found at home
She is searching
For a hero to ride in
To ride in and save the day
And in walks her prince charming
And he knows just what to say
Momentary lapse of reason
And she gives herself away
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
If judgment looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can't see past her scarlet letter
And we've never even met her
If judgment looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can't see past her scarlet letter
And we've never even met her
If Judgement looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can't see past her scarlet letter
And we've never even met her
Never even met her
(Never Even Met her)
(OHHHHH)Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? (Does anybody hear her?) Does anybody see? (Does anybody See?)
Does anybody even know she's going down today?
Under the shadow of our steeple (shadow of her steeple)
With all the lost and lonely people (Lost and Lonely people)
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me

Matthew 6:34.
So I am in taking a class for my religion distibution this semester. Normally, I don't look forward to going to this class...it's just so boring because I never understand what she is talking about. Today however was a different story. Today we studied Matthew 6:1-7:11. The verse that stuck out to me the most was Matthew 6:34. It says: "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today."
This was the perfect verse for me to hear, and the perfect time in which to hear it. I have been worrying so much lately about the future. This verse opened my eyes & helped me to realize that I can't just waste time dwelling on what is going to happen tomorrow. I just need to live in today because God already knows what is going to happen for me tomorrow & he will lead me where to go. I can't control what God already has planned. All I can do is sit back & let him work.
Another thing that this makes me think of is a paper that I have taped to the wall right by my bed. It is another thing that I need to get better at doing when I start to worry about the future. It is called "Good Morning. I Am God."

Good Morning!
I am God.
Today I will be handling all of your problems. Please remember that I do not need your help.
If the devil happes to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, DO NOT attempt to resolve it. Kindly put it in the S.F.J.T.D. (Something For Jesus To Do) Box. It will be addressed in MY time, not yours.
Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold on to it or attempt to remove is. Holding on or removal will delay the resolution of your problem. If it is a situation that you think you are capable of handling, please consult me in prayer to be sure it is the proper solution.
If you find yourself stuck in traffic; Don't despair. There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.
Should you have a bad day at work, think of the man who has been out of work for years.
Should you despair over a relationship gone bad, think of the person who has never known what it's like to love and be loved in return.
Should you grieve the passing of another weekend, think of the woman in dire straits, working 12 hours a day, seven days a week to feed her children.
Should your car break down leaving you miles from assistance, think of the parapalegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk.
Should you notice a new gray hair in the mirror, think of the cancer patient on chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.
Should you find yourself at a loss & pondering what is life all about, asking, "What is my purpose?" Be thankful. There are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.
Should you find yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, ignorance, smallness, or insecurities; remember, things could be worse. You could be them!
Because I do not sleep nor do I slumber, there is no need for you to lose any sleep. Rest, my child. If you need to contact me, I am only a prayer away.

Gun Control
Barack Obama at a recent rural elementary school assembly in East Texas, asked the audience for total quiet. Then, in the silence, he started to
slowly clap his hands once every few seconds, holding the audience in total silence.
Then he said into the microphone, 'Children, every time I clap my hands together, a child in America dies from gun violence.'
Then, little Richard Earl, with a proud East Texas drawl, pierced the quiet and said: ''Well, dumbass, stop clapping!'

Picture from my trip to New York City & Philadelpha!
Flying to New York City!!
This plane was in a holding pattern with us when we were trying to land in LaGuardia. We circled the state of New York for about a half hour!
Times Square!! Well...a very small portion of it!
Paul McCartney's guitar in the Hard Rock Cafe New York.
Billy Joel's motorcycle at the HRC
The view looking down from our hotel room.
Rockefeller Center on a rainy night. You couldn't even see the top this night because it was in the clouds!
Ann Curry & Matt Lauer!!
Matt & I at the Today Show!
Me & Matt Lauer's cardboard alter-ego!
Facing south from the top of Rockefeller Center. The tall building is the Empire State Building!
Matt & I at the top of Rockefeller Center
New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden.
A piece of skyline from Central Park.
Don't let this fool you...It's not a statue but a REAL PERSON!!
A girl's favorite store...TIFFANY'S!! I didn't go in... :(
St. Patrick's Cathedral
The Winter Garden Theatre where we saw Mamma Mia!
Matt & I waiting to go inside the theatre.
Times Square at night! If you look closely near the top of the billboards in the middle you can see the ball that drops on New Year's Eve!
Matt & I walking around Times Square.
A steel beam from the World Trade Centers.
This is where the Towers stood...
This was the sculpture that was in the Plaza of the Twin Towers. It got pretty beat up when the Towers fell. It is now in Battery Park.
A smart pigeon warming itself by the eternal flame in front of the above sculpture.
Lady Liberty! It was VERY foggy & cloudy that day so we didn't even want to go to the top.
Walking on the Brooklyn Bridge!
The cars below us on the Brooklyn Bridge. This is probably my favorite picture of all the pictures I took on the trip.
The Philadelphia 76ers at the Wachovia Center!
A soldier's hut from the American Revolution.
More huts!
Inside a hut. They each housed 12 soldiers.
The Liberty Bell!
Independence Hall!!
That is the ACTUAL chair that George Washington sat in when they were framing the Constitution!
Benjamin Franklin's grave.
Matt's cousin's dog, Max. He is a deer-type Chihuahua! I want one!

Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet!
I am watching one of my all-time favorite movies, Easter Parade with Judy Garland & Fred Astaire! I watch it every Easter (along with other random times throughout the year!). This year, though, it has a more special meaning because I have walked down the famous 5th Avenue where the Easter parade happened! And the whole time I was walking down it, I was singing Easter Parade in my head! Oh, and just another related random fact about myself...I am a HUGE fan of Judy Garland!! I think she is absolutely wonderful! Sometimes I wish I were about 50 years older than I am just so I could have been alive at the height of her career!
P.S. Janell-Janell, my next blog will be about my trip!

Nothing Could Change What You Mean To Me
Heaven by Bryan Adams
Oh - thinking about all our younger years
There was only you and me
We were young and wild and free
Now nothing can take you away from me
We've been down that road before
But that's over now
You keep me coming back for more
*Chorus:
Baby you're all that I want
When you're lying here in my arms
I'm finding it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven
Oh - once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you're feeling down
Yeah nothing could change what you mean to me
Oh there's lots that I could say
But just hold me now
Cause our love will light the way
*Chorus*
I've been waiting for so long
For something to arrive
For love to come along
Now our dreams are coming true
Through the good times and the bad
I'll be standing there by you
*chorus*oh no..oh no..we're in heaven..

Only 28 More Days!!!
So I am getting REALLY excited for my trip to New York City & Philadelphia!! By next week I will probably start losing sleep because I am so excited! Since I am so excited I am posting a blog about my trip plans so far!
See the brown-ish building right in the middle of this picture?? That is the Crowne Plaza Times Square! That is where we are staying!! And see all the people & stuff below it...that's Times Square!! THE TIMES SQUARE!!
Look at this picture. Yes, that is Al Roker! Well Matt & I are going to be one of those crazy people who are in the crowd! Watch the Today Show on Friday, March 27th & look for us!!
Picture numero tres! This is Madison Square Garden! Home of the New York Knicks! Matt & I will be there Friday night to watch the Knicks game!!
Saturday night we are going to the Winter Garden Theatre (see below!) to see Mamma Mia! This theatre was also the home of the longest running show on broadway, Cats!
This is what it looks like on the inside!! Beautiful!!
And the last picture. Ground Zero. This is where we are going on Sunday. I know that there isn't really much to see here but I'm a history person & this is, I think, the biggest thing to happen to the country in my life time (or at least what I remember). This is like the JFK assassination for my generation. I can't wait to be there.

Please Remember
I can't believe that is has been 6 years. It feels like it was just yesterday that she was taken from us all too soon. Even though we weren't extremely close she was the one person that I looked up to more than anyone else. I wanted to be just like her. She was so sociable and pretty and she was nice to everyone! The thing that I remember most was her contagious smile. It was beautiful. Our superintendent described it best in an article in the school newspaper. He said, "[Elyse's] smile was as bold and beautiful as the sunshine on the morning of her death."
I don't think I have been as sad as I was since the day of the accident. It is definitely in the top 3 worst days of my life. And it sucks that the first funeral I had ever been to had to the funeral of a 16-year-old classmate. I have never seen the gymnasium that full of people. I think there were over 1,000 people there. That show how many people she touched in some way. But I know now that we can find comfort in knowing that she is still with all of us today and that we will see her again soon.
Here is a poem that I wrote that day after school:

Gone
To: Elyse
She touched our heartsIn so many ways
But now that she's gone
We just cannot say
How much we will miss her
And we'll think of her each day
It's just not sinking in
That she is gone for good
It all feels like a bad, bad dream
If we could change that past we would
But God took her to heaven
To live for ever with him there
And she will always watch over us
And she will always care
